Many employees who are bored of their work or want more career diversity and freedom often look into freelancing as a solution. Most freelancers seem to have flexible working hours, higher pay and more time for themselves. The truth is, it’s not always what it seems. While some of these facts may be true, it all depends on the type of work.
Some careers such as dental hygienists enjoy flexible working hours when working part-time. They can spend the rest of the time studying or even working for other employers to increase their salary.
However, some freelance jobs can be very demanding. Freelancing as an events manager for example, has a very high stress factor because of the number of things that needs to be coordinated. Working hours can extend beyond the usual 8 to 5 during the event planning period.
Freelancers always need to be on their toes, meet and maintain clients and professional contacts, as well as maintain an excellent work reputation in order to get more jobs. Another thing is, the salary will not always be regular, so it would require a little more time on budgeting.
