According to United States Geological Survey, less than 20% of the total households in America use soft water coming from their faucets. Soft water is the type of water that is free from minerals like calcium and magnesium. Thus, more American households utilize hard water which is composed of certain levels of salt, metals and other minerals. Drinking such kind of water is actually not harmful to one’s health. In fact, it can be beneficial. However, many Americans are still using hard water filter not because of health reasons but more of convenience reasons. It was found out that hard water can clog faucets, pipes and sinks. This is very inconvenient because mineral deposits are very hard to remove. Another thing is that hard water makes the skin drier and the hair coarser. It is also harder to wash clothes, dishes and even your own body with hard water because this type of water produces less lather when used with soap.
